Fitchburg's Wallace Tower recently completed the first phase of a major upgrade that includes new heating and cooling systems along with a planned expansion of its community space. Prior to the refit, the apartments on Wallace Avenue for 55+ residents utilized highly inefficient electric resistance heating systems installed when the building was first constructed in 1974. Today, each of the 130 units now has a mini-split heating and cooling unit permanently installed to improve energy efficiency and quality of life. The $1.5 million project will receive $750,000 in energy efficiency rebates through Unitil.

Yesterday, today, and everyday, please join us in committing to sustainable design. Our commitment to sustainable design stems from our responsibility to our clients, our employees, and our communities. We believe that fostering a culture of stewardship leads to better designs, successful projects, and happier clients. We’d like to take this opportunity to highlight a project on our boards, a Net Zero Energy Fire Station for Lebanon, NH. This project will have extremely low energy consumption, and renewable energy will make up for the rest. We are actively working with our consultants at DuBois & King, Inc. and Foley Buhl Roberts & Associates to drive down energy use. As well as with Liberty to take advantage of NHSaves incentives, and the City of Lebanon to set a new bar for High-Performance Public Safety facilities. #EarthDay

“We experienced two major storms in recent weeks that caused significant damage to our electrical infrastructure, and these events really underscored the critical role that our lineworkers play when the power goes out,” said Unitil External Affairs Director Alec O’Meara. “Lineworkers enter this field knowing that they could be called out at any hour and in all kinds of weather to assist with restoration efforts, even when their own family may be home in the dark. We recognize the sacrifices they make each and every day and we appreciate their dedication to the customers in the communities they serve.”

"At a previous job, I was fortunate to be working with a female engineer who had worked hard and risen herself to the top of the position. The one thing I admired most about her is she never lost herself. She was open to new ideas and took the time to cultivate an open and welcoming environment. She gave me the opportunity to have a voice in a sea of male counterparts and that experience was invaluable to me." Sheena Mason, from Falmouth, ME, has been a member of #TeamUnitil for 3 years and is currently serving as our Sr. Gas Engineer. She volunteers as the Treasurer of Falmouth Elementary School PTO and we are so thankful she is on our team! #WomeninBusiness #GenerationEquality #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #InvestInWomen
